OTHER QUESTIONS

WHO SHOULD AUDITION FOR THE GROUP?

Anyone!  We founded the group to include:

Graduates and current students of Lycoming, Mansfield, Susquehanna, Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Penn State, Bucknell, and others.

Music teachers from all across the area

Local community members

Talented high school students

WHY HOLD AUDITIONS?  WHY THESE REQUIREMENTS?

Because we expect that the members of the choir will come to the rehearsals with the music learned to the best of their ability.  The audition is a good indicator of whether or not this is possible.  We do not expect the audition to be perfect.  Likewise, we also do not expect the members to be perfect in rehearsal.  However, because of the short rehearsal schedule (which makes the group possible) members must have the time and skill to learn music outside of rehearsal.

WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO AUDITION AT THE SCHEDULED TIMES?

Please e-mail us as soon as possible.  We want you to audition and will do our best to accommodate you.

THE GROUP'S CONDUCTOR AND FOUNDERS

The Lycoming Baroque Choir and Orchestra was founded by Christopher Jackson and Fiona Gillespie, both new professors at Lycoming College.  Their bios are available by clicking on their names above.

WHY THE NAME, "LYCOMING BAROQUE CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA"?

The simple answer is that we love music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods of history.  One of the goals of the group is to promote music from these eras (otherwise known as "early music").  We have even received a small grant from Early Music America, the leading organization of its kind in the United States, to promote and educate our community regarding the performance of early music.

ARE WE PERFORMING ONLY EARLY MUSIC?

No.  We will perform music from all eras, including modern.  However, many works for orchestra and chorus from the Baroque and Classical eras call for small and affordable orchestras.  This makes it possible for our members to perform works with a live orchestra!  This exciting aspect of the group is one thing that makes our experience unique.  That being said, there is so much incredible music from these eras that we can't wait to share with our members and audiences.  Don't let the idea of it scare you or think you will be bored.   There will be variety on every concert, and we assure you that the music is anything but boring.

WHO IS FUNDING THE GROUP?

We have received a grant from Early Music America and a substantial donation from Lycoming College.  Further funding will depend on a combination of grants, donations, and ticket sales from concerts.  We hope to obtain 501-C3 status for a non-profit organization in the near future.
